Make no mistake, most CV's do. In todays market your chances of making interview can be 1000-1 or even higher - there are so many people sending CV's to employers and agencies. However, research shows that a well-constructed, interesting and directly-relevant CV can improve your chances to 10-1 or maybe even better.

You won’t get in if you don’t stand out. And if you don't stand out you will end up at the bottom of the pile. Guaranteed. So... if you know your CV is lacking there are 3 things you can do...

Option 1. Leave it as it is and keep on hoping

Option 2. Go to a CV Writing agency and let them write it for you

Option 3. Learn to sell and market yourself effectively by following Effective CV Writing

What do I believe will be the outcome?

Option 1. Zero - no interviews and no job or career progression

Option 2. A nice looking CV but lacking in substance. NOT THE BEST OPTION IN MY OPINION

Option 3. A significantly increased chance of making interview!

Effective CV Writing is about learning how to sell and market yourself AS A PRODUCT - and this for some people is the beginning of the problem.  It does not come naturally to many to be assertive or to be seen as promoting themselves. However, in the race for jobs there are not so many timid and shy candidates who win.  Self-deprecation, modesty and understatement don’t result in employers and agencies beating a path to your door.

You must learn to sell yourself and your CV is the starting point. Just imagine… will the candidates you’re in competition with be thinking the same? Or do you think they will be working hard at presenting themselves in the best light?

No-one is advocating that your CV represents anything less than the truth about you, your experience and your abilities. It’s just that there are ways of presenting information about yourself.

Research would indicate that most recruiters would, on average, spend less than two minutes reading a CV. Two minutes! Some, I would venture to suggest, are consigned to the waste-bin with nothing more than a quick glance.

Your challenge is to make the most of the window of opportunity to grab their attention before the window slams shut.
